Import Revit Model to RAM Steel

Some tips:

  1. Create the framing for each level on the same work plane.

  2. For some reason all columns on my roof were extended 1" above the top of the work plane. RAM does not like this. Change the top extension for columns back to 0".

  3. If you are going to overwrite the RAM model (rss), delete it first. It works better.

  4. Cantilevers will work better if you place grids and columns at all intersections in the revit model, and then let the RAM modeler work out the cantilever lengths in RAM Steel.

  5. RAM does not like curved beams. RAM also does not like round web bar joists. Use the angle web for K joists. I can probably map the round web K joists to something usable in RAM, but I don't have time to mess with that right now.

  6. RAM/Revit link will import most of the layers from Revit, you can delete the ones you do not need from the "story" dialogue in RAM.
