Importing Details from AutoCAD

  1. Check and see if somebody else has already recreated the detail for revit. (//CADD/Details/ or //CADD/Typicals)
  2. Open the detail in AutoCAD, convert the text styles to Arial, fix any text problems.
  3. Purge and SAVE the detail.
  4. In Revit, open a new "Drafting View".
  5. From the File Menu, choose Import/Link --> CAD Formats.
  6. Browseto the AutoCAD file, import as "Black & White".
  7. "Partial Explode" the detail, and fix any errors. Optionally rename the drafting view to the same detail name.
  8. VERY IMPORTANT --> From the project browser, right click the drafting view name, and "Save to File". Give the rvt detail the same name as the original AutoCAD detail and save it to the same directory as the original AutoCAD file.
